Well Adjusted - The Campaign for Legally Compliant, Socially Responsible, and Good for Business Marketing and Communication.
As part of the Hidden Differences Group, HD 2080 sponsored this initiative in conjunction with the British Dyslexia Association (BDA) and the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (ICSA.)
Every marketing and communication specialist should know that the Disability Discrimination Act requires that 'reasonable adjustments' are made to communication for staff and customers, to make them accessible to all. The trouble is that no one has defined what these 'reasonable adjustments' need to be!
The Well Adjusted Campaign gathered a group of 'Champions' together from all spheres to define, refine and launch the top ten reasonable adjustments as a charter that organisations can sign up to, and to use as guidance for all future marketing and communication. The launch on October 10th was successful with over 60 attendees from both Commerce and Associations. The result of the Campaign was a 48 page booklet called 'The Great Communication Guide', which is also available as a PDF on www.welladjusted.org.uk.
The good thing is that well adjusted communication benefits the 80% of people of all ages without communication difficulties, as well as the 20% with communication disabilities, difficulties and differences – be they dyslexia, illiteracy, language, or visual/hearing impairment.
